203: Transforming SIF Prevention: Classification, Metrics, Risk and Leadership Engagement with the New ASTM Standards
5

Preventing serious incidents and fatalities requires more than improving compliance or reducing minor injuries – it requires transforming how organizations identify, classify, prioritize and control the risks capable of causing the most serious harm. This seminar delivers an engagement-centered approach to SIF prevention based on the four new ASTM SIF prevention standards and the National Safety Council SIF Prevention Model. You’ll learn practical methods to consistently classify SIF injuries, illnesses, and incidents; modernize performance metrics beyond TRIR; and prioritize SIF risk and promote engagement for shared understanding. We’ll emphasize strengthening leader and worker engagement to recognize SIF risks, verify critical safeguards and build trust. This workshop blends targeted instruction with hands-on classification practice, risk-ranking exercises, and engagement-focused activities such as collaborative scenario discussions and operational learning techniques.
