1: HOP: How Do We Know It Works?
1

Demonstrating the “success” of HOP integrations using traditional metrics like TRIR is challenging. These metrics are poor proxies for injuries and unplanned events and are often too insensitive to show meaningful change. Ironically, the organizations most ready to adopt HOP – those with mature safety cultures and low injury rates – lack sufficient data to demonstrate statistical improvement. Conversely, those with enough incidents to measure an effect likely have more basic safety challenges to address first before attempting HOP integration. In this session, we’ll discuss why, rather than seeking validation through traditional metrics, organizations should recognize that HOP reduces risk by making work more humane, strengthening learning, and driving better operational and preventive outcomes.
